Altitude, the size of the eggs and the amount of eggs being cooked at a time can all affect the cooking times of hard boiled eggs. To hard boil an egg, cover the eggs in cold water and bring to a roiling boil. Allow the eggs to boil for 5 minutes and then turn the heat off. Leave the eggs covered for about 10 minutes to finish cooking the eggs.
